Biography of Lorena Coppola

Lorena Coppola 1 Founder and President of LEONIDE MASSINE FOUNDATION, Dancer, Choreographer, Translator and International Project Manager, Lorena Coppola is actively engaged in art promotion activities.She has published the Italian translation of Léonide Massine’s autobiography My Life in Ballet (1995); Introduction to the Theory of Choreographic Composition (1998); Trent’Anni di Foto di Danza (1997) and L’Effimero in Posa (in print) .She has produced several Dance Performances and Theatre Shows: Les Soirées aux Îles des Galliés, (“Homage to Léonide Massine” – Kaleidoscope Program – European Commission, in collaboration with Centre Culturel Mairie de Biot and Het National Ballet); Bailando por la Calle; Richard Wagner. Progetto Gesamtkunstwerk; The Lost Girl, Verso Dove (in collaboration with soloists of San Carlo Theatre of Naples) just to mention a few.Lorena Coppola 3 Moreover, she has taken part in many Productions and Festivals as Art Director or Executive Producer and has organized several Art Exhibitions (Léonide Massine: L’Uomo e l’Artista; Impermanenza; Sculture Lignee; Percorsi di Danza; Miti in Scena; Danza della Luce; Obiettivo sulla Danza).

 In 2003 she has been a member of the International Dance Council (UNESCO). In the same year she has worked as press office for the presentation in Italy, France and England of the book Words of Dance (photographs by Alessio Buccafusca, texts by Alberto Testa, Gremese Publisher). In 2004 she started the Project entitled KULTOUR International, under the patrocinio of the General Embassy of Germany, in collaboration with: Florence Academy of Fine Arts, Saint Petersburg Museum of Theatre and Music, University of Turku (Finland), Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Tenerife.

In 2004 she collaborated with the Stadtmuseum of Borken for the Exhibition: LÉONIDE MASSINE. Dancer and Choreographer, Cosmopolitan of Ballet.

From 2004 to 2006 she has been responsible for Communication and Public Relations for the Dance Award “Léonide Massine” in Positano.

In 2005 she has collaborated with Antonio Marquez Company (Management) and Vladimir Derevianko (Project of institution of a World Dance Academy).

Lorena Coppola 2 In 2007 she has organized the Art Exhibition Alessio Buccafusca. Trent’Anni di Foto di Danza, under the aegis of the Italian Embassy in Madrid at the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, Spain. The exhibition has then been repeated in Italy (Naples 2007, Florence 2008).

 Besides producing and organizing art events, Lorena Coppola dances Flamenco and Contemporary Dance.

She performs both as a soloist dancer and with ensembles. She also creates choreographies and teaches Spanish Dance.

In the last few years her interest has been focused especially on Choreographic Research and on the interaction between different forms of art: Dance, Music, Poetry, Painting, Sculpture.

At present she collaborates with choreographers, dance companies and art institutions from all over the world.
